Tomarrazon

Colombia:

In 1989 the Rosminian Sisters opened a house in Colombia, in a country called Tomarrazon, responding to the desire of the then Mother General Emerenziana Cortella to implement what the “Second Vatican Council” proposed to religious: To go towards the poorest.

The people in this country are majority peasants. A place that in the past was remembered for guerrilla warfare. The sisters arrived and worked in education and catechesis. The work of the Rosminian Sisters in this place has also been recognized by the Bishops of the Diocese of Riohachia, to which Tomarrazon belongs, as an authentic promotion of the population and religiosity.

Even today the activity carried out in this house is the parish pastoral care, at the service of the local church; we are in direct contact with poor people, we visit homes, we prepare for the sacraments with catechesis and we follow pastoral groups. We work in the pastoral team formed by lay people and a seminarian, who is waiting for the parish. We collaborate with the responsible priests in the diocese of Riohacha in the various pastoral activities.

We also collaborate on a social project with which the government tries to follow children from the moment of conception to youth, in the aspect of nutrition, health and intellectual training. We offer the space of our house for meetings with families who follow this program.

The problems to be faced are always many, in this reality full of sun and color; we plan to make a children’s park and a football field for the children who frequent our house. We hope that God will help us through generous hearts to make this dream a reality.
