My dear Sisters,
In our normal day-to-day living, we have no idea of the consequence of our reactions or of our response to others. Likewise, we cannot know the influence in a chain of events, on our own lives or on the lives of others, following our discernment and our response to God’s invitation.
In the mystery of the Annunciation we see Mary’s discerning response: “The Annunciation to Mary inaugurates “the fullness of time”, the time of the fulfilment of God’s promises and preparations. Mary was invited to conceive him in whom the “whole fullness of deity” would dwell “bodily”. The divine response to her question, “How can this be since I know not man?” was given by the power of the Spirit: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you.” (Catechism of the church 484)
When the Angel of the Lord appeared, with the message calling her to a special mission, Mary responded: “Let it be to me according to your Word.” This is the core of our Christian calling. “What came about in bodily form in Mary, the fullness of the godhead shining through Christ in the Blessed Virgin, takes place in a similar way in every soul that has been made pure. The Lord does not come in bodily form, for ´we no longer know Christ according to the flesh´, but He dwells in us spiritually and the Father takes up His abode with Him” (Gregory of Nyssa)
I ask myself: Have I the capacity to give the whole of myself to God with my total “yes”, in word and in action? Because this ‘yes’ has within it the power to transform my life and in turn to touch the lives of others.
Mary, Virgin and Mother, you who, moved by the Holy Spirit,
welcomed the Word of life in the depths of your humble faith:
as you gave yourself completely to the Eternal One,
help us to say our own “yes”
to the urgent call, as pressing as ever,
to proclaim the Good News of Jesus. (Pope Francis)
We remember in our prayer, as we journey through Lent and towards the coming General Chapter, our sick and elderly Sisters in the Casa dell’Addolorata and in other parts of the Congregation, including our Families and those in need; our Sisters in Venezuela and this continuous precarious situation; the many and varied activities and on-going projects in different Districts requiring discernment and support including financial help; the daily happenings in our world brought to our attention through the media. Thank you.
A joyful remembrance of the Birthday of Blessed Antonio Rosmini!
Happy Feast of the Annunciation to each one!
